Nailing The Shape

Nailing The Shape

Today I’m writing a short post about nail shapes, because a lot of the time people get confused or don’t correctly identify each nail shape and their properties.

Shaping the nail is literally the first step you need to take when doing a full manicure or pedicure. Below I have created a diagram presenting the most common nail shapes:

  • As you can see, square nails have flat sides with sharp edges.
  • Squoval is square with soft, round edges.
  • Round has a curved top.
  • Oval has a round top, with sides that angle in.
  • Almond nails has a pointed top with sides that angle in.
  • Coffin has a flat top with sides that angle in.

I have put the nail shapes in order of what’s easiest to changed from one nail shape to another.

You can always save this image, or refer back to this page as a helpful guide the next time you go to file your nails!
